A new area of opportunity was opened for SPP with the awarding of P17.0 M and P52.0M jobs from Primo Oleochemicals and Toyota Motor Corp. (Nikfill), respectively in 1995.  These jobs proved SPP's capability to undertake large structural steel works at high standards along with its traditional skills.  Consequently, SPP decided to put up its Industrial Division to cater to this market segment.

The economic crunch that started in July 1997 affected SPP's sales and profit picture.  Many jobs it quoted have been postponed, shelved or downgraded.   Anticipating a quick recovery, SPP postponed undertaking strong measures to prepare itself for the difficult times.   But, with the continued economic slowdown, it undertook firm cost saving measures including retrenchment.  This necessitated the injection of fresh capital to replace equity eaten up by losses.
